If I do a factory restore, and then restore from backup, will the files just go right back on?

G4/G5 optimized firefox builds are faster...
Not on my G5 here. Testing the javascript capabilitys with BenchJS (http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/benchjs/benchjs.html) Camino is faster (under 10 seconds) than the G5 optimized FireFox (17 seconds)

You can go back to 3.1.3 without blobs. Besides, 3G works best on that iOS anyway.

The singer/humorist Jonathan Coulton has written a sweet little ditty about his Powerbook, definitely worth checking out! The first link goes to the .mp3 which he has posted on his website, and the second goes to the lyrics. Enjoy!

Apple claims that a PRAM reset will automatically reset the Power Manager. I've always assumed this Power Manager to be the PMU but I've seen problems not solved with a PRAM reset yet solved with a PMU reset.
How is this so?
Any help is greatly appreciated, as ever. :)

That's a tough call and a personal decision involving the trade off between power and portability.
Which would bother you more:
-not having a computer with you during the occasional times you travel, or
-not having the power of the iMac the majority of the time, when you're at home?
Personally, I think sacrificing the power of the iMac just so I had a laptop for the infrequent times I travel would bother me more. I prefer to purchase the type of computer that I need the majority of the time.
Of course, this is only valid if the difference in power between the MBP and the iMac you're considering is significant enough to notice.

Does the M R stand for MacRumors? Not sure what the E 6 means? The picture looks like the Quicktime icon over a AirPort Base Station.

people are selling the 30GB color ipods for less than 200 here, and if they are 200 or up they come with like 3 cases and all the accessories like the dock etc.
$200 is not the price I wish to sell out. I was using it as a comparison because it was being compared to a new stick or RAM, I don't know the used price for a stick of RAM, so cleary I wouldn't be able to make such a comparison. I am not asking for $100 in cash for the trade. PM me and we can talk.

The WGS 95 is somewhat collectable - the Mac II a little less so. I personally like the Mac II because it's one of only two '020 machines (the LC being the other), but most other people don't seem to care. Anything in a Quadra 900 form factor tends to generate interest - especially the WGS line since there aren't as many of them.
The X factor will be shipping - neither of those machines will be inexpensive to ship. I'd recommend heading over to the 68kmla (http://68kmla.org/forums/) site and see if anyone is interested.

Yes, legality of the pirated movies. That's what I thought that was. I've just never seen something move that quick before. I had read about this in the newspapers before, but I didn't know what it looked like. this was the only place I could think of in the search I did to ask. Thank you.
The word "pirated" is probably your best clue as to its legality or not in your jurisdiction.
It looks like a Usenet search engine.
For my money, I'd rather spend money renting a movie rather than spending hours downloading dodgy rips in obscure codecs.

thanks both of you, that worked kinda.
the only problem is in the dock, when you ctrl click the new icon to get the menu you can move out through folders on the hard drive but not on cds. the cd shows up, but just as an alias. any work around?

I tried Insomniax and Caffeine. They both seem to not work, when I close the lid the notebook sleeps. I am planning on buying a 40" Tv, wireless keyboard and mouse + 5 foot HDMI to mini-display port cord so I can come back to my dorm, plug into the TV and shut the lid, and basically have a desktop.
Lion doesn't seem to work with these? Or the Air? Anyone tried this on Lion. I never tried to use these programs on SL.

It doesnt have to last me that long, I just want to know if it will. Also, its not that Im playing the waiting game, I just want to know if I should wait for the Intel processors instead of PPC. The thing is I hear new Intel iBooks would have many problems as well as the new apps and if theyll still be buggy when I need one, I would buy one now bc theyre pretty much perfected w/ the PPC.
Apples age very well. I know a number of people using G3 iMacs, c. 1999, as their primary computers.
I also see original iBooks at coffeeshops quite frequently.
I plan on mine lasting me through college (in my first semester of freshman year).

none of the profiles I select look correct, or should I say, optimal. The only time it does look optimal is on the installing updates screen.

Apple apps are not the only ones that won't update if not directly in the Applications Folder. What's the issue with "overcrowding"? How many are too many?
