You are entirely correct. There is really nothing that will make the daily life of an American citizen better 'cause their can of Bud is 331ml, or their corn-beef sandwich has 125gs of beef, and 12ml of mustard on two slices of rye, each 115mm thick.
Quite frankly I really don't understand why this attitude is necessary. Have I been rude or condescending towards you in this discussion? Has anyone else in this thread?
I think the most insulting part is that you couldn't even make a coherent point with this sarcasm. Are you trying to poke fun at random numbers in the imperial system? Arbitrary values in general? Americans who eat roast beef?
But don't go around telling the world what a "modern" society you are when you are still stuck measuring things with this quaint system that the rest of the world has modernized away from. it's really kinda cute, you know. :D
Oh you mean how you still have a queen as your sovereign? Or how you mandate bilingual education for a stark minority of French Canadians? Or how the United Kingdom still has an unwritten constitution? Or how half of Europe still has an official state church? Or how the French presume guilt rather than innocence? Or how Italy is still run by political machines?
Modernity is always a hindsight judgment. What should matter is if the system is not working for the people who use it. With private industries transitioning manufacturing to metric, the biggest argument in favor of the metric system is moot. The question then comes down to whether or not you are better positioned to judge what other people need or want.

Apple is being more directly compared to Dell and such these days since they are running Intel chips. And the PC makers are going to put those processors in their computers as soon as they can. If Apple doesn't want to look like they are behind in the times, they have to put these processors in also.
Do you really think Dell will put merom in ALL laptops and not use yonah at all? I doubt it. Yonah will likely always be cheaper and we'll probably see it for a while in budget laptops. I could see yonah either staying in macbooks for a bit, or staying in the base model only (or even a special edu config like the iMac has).
MacBook and MacBook Pro are soldered. So no, you can't change it.
The iMac and MacMini are socketed.
And the Pro. :)
Are there any benchmarks for the Core 2 Duo chips? What would we be getting from the upgrade?
Supposedly about 20% faster at the same clock speed, plus they are 64 bit, but the benefits of that in these machines is somewhat debatable. It's a nice upgrade, but not a huge one.
Quite incorrect actually. The dfifference is not minimal and this isn't just a "speed bump". If you read up on the Yonah and Merom chip architectures, you'll see that that Merom has significant architectural improvements over Yonah, including a 4MB L2 cache and most notably 64-bit support over Yonah's 32-bit support. This is very significant since Jobs is pushing Leopard and its 64-bit goodness.
But that "goodness" mostly looks like greater memory access, which is a moot point in a machine with two ram slots. Most of the "goodness" isn't anything a laptop user will notice.

So I guess that Gold Master rumor was wrong.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that the conversation between the leaker at Apple and the second person went something like this:
Person: "So how close are we do a Golden Master?"
Leaker: "We're probably going to get a few more updates out then we'll start seeding some builds that are pretty Golden Master in quality"
The off runs the person to claim that the Golden Master seeds will be coming soon - I've seen it happen so many times where people get the wrong end of the stick especially if it is a chain of chinese whispers.

Putting it on the Mac App Store raises an interesting issue about licencing - they said that purchases could be used on any Mac that you use.
That opens them up to a lot of abuse.
If my experience with Pages was standard, then yes, you can reinstall any app you purchase on several Macs. I sure wouldn't mind getting a flash drive with the OS on it. Something as important as that I'd want a hard copy back up esp. if we're going to pay to the tune $130.

They released the C2D iMACS altogether. I would be really surprised if they didn't do AT LEAST the same to their pro line-ups.
Except that Apple has typically released only the 15 inch model before later introducing the 17 (and 12 when they existed) when they do major updates. Witness the introduction of the Al case and the Intel switch. Of course it matters whether this is a major update. If, like the iMacs, there is not a major case redesign and it is just a processor bump then expect them to be released simultaneously. But if there is a change in case, I would be surprised (pleasantly though) if the 17 came out at the same time.

Yes amazons is more transparent and to the point. Apples is more vague. Ill take transparent over vague "in my interpretation" any day.

I'll add :
Sony HD Blue Ray Optical Drives for Mac Pros and external drives for other Macs.
Airport A/V with Blue Ray Drive and Hard Drive..

How does this affect T-Bolt? How about the tri-gate technology released by Intel the other day. Sounds like Intel is making huge strides in their processors.
I hope this is just a rumor.

I find it hard to believe that the next iphone won't turn up until September if Apple is only shoehorning in a current production processor and maybe a spec upgrade on the camera. So it is obviously about LTE.
If not, then this is all some sort of elaborate canary trap or disinformation campaign. Thus the iphone will still be released in July and we get to hear about some leaker that got fired.

you guys are still in denial.
the fact is...most people dont want an iphone. the reports says it and the sales numbers proves it. its not about the limit availability of the iphone or contract issues...its just doesn't appeal to most people.
Actually it's because u can get a android cheap....
Scenario:
Customer: how much for an iPhone ?
Sales: with your credit? 500 deposit and 200 for the phone....
Customer: and that android?
Sales oh u can get that free with a co tract of 500 or u can buy the LG optimus for 140 or the G2 for 200 and prepaid service...

I spent two weeks in Ireland with my iPhone 4 and had location services + data and cell service turned off and it did not track my location at all during the entire stay. I did use wifi almost every day while there... and really only had my phone b/c the camera in the iPhone4 is much much better than my old Fujifilm point-and-shoot.

It's an epic rip off.
I hope the next report out is how they only sold 10% of what they forcasted for these pieces of junk.

I meant it might happen, it's just a thought.
Well they did kill itools so in the end they'd have to kill the whole MobileMe brand.
Luckily the Apple today is cash rich compared to the Apple 8 or so years ago. We certainly should be expecting more from Apple.

I hope we're all in for surprises at WWDC. Up until then, this is all speculation. It's fun to speculate and to try to be cool by being right, but I hope they knock everyone's socks off with the unexpected.

Thats a little better, but what about having a single processor $1500 model like they used to do with the G4s? If Apple really wants to build their market share, they have to realize that people often buy PCs because they can be customized and some of those people don't want $2500 computers. Not having a customizable model in the desktop lineup that is under $2000 is a bad idea.
One of the big complaints I hear about Dell from my friends in IT that buy computers for our company (10,000+ employees) is that Dell has to many product lines and to many options. All with prices and specs that change daily.
Are you forgetting that you can buy a Mac for as low as $599.00 and it's customizable too!
People who are buying Mac Pros are not the casual shopper, who walks into an Apple store to look at the latest iPods and walk out with a computer (those people buy iMacs).

There are several ways to lose a patent. One way is not to defend it. Another ways is trying to defend bogus patents and have the court invalidate it.
That's true, but in this case the similarities are so close I'd hardly call it bogus.

2010 - Apple Loses #1 Mobile OS spot to Android OS
2011 - Apple pisses off their JB customers and loses 10% more
2012 - Apple loses #2 and #3 spot to Windows Mobile & HP OS
Within 12 months Apple will own the same market share as their computers, 9% ... and it'll have been the same story: rose to glory, abuse the customer and business partners, people get sick of the rulebook and leave for more open pastures.
This is all deja vu from the 80s repeating itself, wow.
I dumped iPhone at xmas, now I'll likely dump iPad 2 if this trend continues. If they really push the washington involvement to stop jailbreaking, I'll get rid of my 3 iMac\MB Air\MB Pro... I don't support companies who attack me. They're here because of me, not the opposite. If they don't get that, adios.
HAHAHAH! Please, be my quest. There aren't enough people with similar thinking to even register on Apple's "oh no" list. They'll continue to grow and put out product after product that will dominate the market. The difference between the 80's and now is the "cool" appeal. People HAVE to have that new Apple product.

Probably because there is no need for it in that range? Plus most Mac Pro users won't use Apple displays IMO

Has Apple EVER released any consumer products at WWDC? It sounds like some people are going to be in for a real dissapointment when no iphone comes out. I thought they were trying to transition from releases at big conferences anyway.

LOL.
I absolutely love the phrase: "PowerBook G5 next Tuesday".
It will certainly become a classic remark to us MacRumor's folk. Like Cold Fusion, or Time Travel, it will stand for "the unreachable, the unproducable, never to be achieved by mankind". :D
So, let's not ban this phrase, it should be imprinted in a tombstone with golden letters. We know Apple tried... but they couldn't achieve it... now that is something not often heard.
It's only banned for 2 years for overuse. After that it can be used, just properly.

This is for a development in the future and the cost may not go up.
Apple usually outwaits developments until the cost fall into their range.
BTW: I do find it funny that you want to fault Apple for "gaming" a field that they clearly did not want to be in.
BTW2: The iMac for the masses is a clever space saving design. Their sales success shows it!
The Pro type tower boxes with separate monitor are just big clunky boxes.
They take up desk space or are usually hidden under the desk.
Also, in any good design Form follows Function. Apple follows that principle well and then some.
The secret of excellent design is actually what is not there:-)
Well, we will have to disagree there :)
I think Apple puts form/Style above function, and will make a device that does not work very well, or is comfortable/practical for a human to use, simply so that it looks cool and people want to buy it.
